Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, operating under the name Altra, invites companies to participate in an international procurement for the provision of design services related to the expansion of the Solid Radioactive Waste Storage Facility. Interested companies are invited to participate in the procurement and submit their tenders by April 10 via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) electronic procurement platform.
Altra, responsible for the decommissioning of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, is preparing for a project without global precedent – the dismantling of two RBMK-1500 nuclear reactors. One stage of this project involves the development of the existing Solid Radioactive Waste Storage Facility located at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant site, adapting it for the storage of radioactive waste generated during reactor dismantling.
The project does not involve the construction of a new nuclear facility. Instead, an existing radioactive waste processing complex located on the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant site will be reconstructed and adapted for the temporary storage of reactor waste until a deep geological repository is established.
The storage will store radioactive graphite and steel waste generated from the dismantling of reactor units, as well as radioactive concrete waste and used sealed sources generated during the decommissioning of the power plant.
Scope of Services
This procurement aims to acquire design and project implementation supervision services for the expansion of the Solid Radioactive Waste Storage Facility.
The design services will include:
All information regarding the procurement conditions, technical specifications, and other procurement-related documents is published on the EBRD electronic procurement platform ECEPP. All procurement-related questions must be submitted and will be addressed exclusively through this platform.
The procurement will be conducted in accordance with the EBRD Procurement Policies and Rules, ensuring international openness, transparency, and equal competitive conditions for suppliers from different countries.
The project is financed by funds allocated by the European Commission under the Ignalina Programme, which supports the decommissioning of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and the implementation of nuclear safety projects.
